2000 Residents Benefit from Edo Free Medical Outreach

In a remarkable initiative led by Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, the Edo State Government has extended its compassion by organizing a medical outreach that has provided essential care to approximately 2000 residents in Esan West Local Government Area.

Prof. Akoria further revealed that this outreach is part of the unwavering dedication of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration to enhance the health and well-being of the people of Edo.

This extraordinary event was meticulously arranged by the Edo State Government in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, with invaluable support from the Head of Local Government Administration in Esan West.

The beneficiaries were granted access to world-class healthcare services, delivered by over 200 volunteers and skilled healthcare professionals from various fields, including Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Child Health, Obstetrics and Gynaecology (ObGyn), Nursing, Laboratory Science, Pharmacy, Health Promotion/Education, and Community Health.

Prof. Akoria further highlighted that the outreach catered to a wide range of residents, including youths, elderly women and men, and vulnerable individuals. They benefitted from complimentary cervical and breast cancer screenings, free eye screenings with provision of glasses, family planning services, as well as comprehensive tests for Hepatitis A, B, and C, among other vital screenings.

She said, “We are pleased with the great success that the government’s recently finished medical outreach program for Esan West LGA inhabitants achieved.

“The outreach is a component of the government’s initiatives to improve the health and wellness of all residents, making sure that the state’s impoverished and grassroots communities receive effective and high-quality healthcare services.

“The participation of volunteers and citizens alike has us happy. Over 2000 customers were serviced, resulting in over 3,500 patient contacts, despite the fact that we had over 200 volunteers and other medical professionals. The majority of patients had at least two clinical screening and/or treatment encounters.

“Free prescription drugs and eyeglasses were given out; family planning (FP) services and free FP materials were provided; Hepatitis A, B, and C testing were given; breast and cervical cancer screenings were conducted; and some cases of the disease were found.

“We are optimistic that this outreach, which aims to further emphasize to residents the importance of routine medical checkups, will support government efforts to ensure a robust healthcare system for effective and high-quality healthcare delivery.”
