2022 Democracy Day: Obaseki Urges Nigerians to Embody Founding Fathers’ Ideals

As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has called on citizens to embody the principles of justice and equity that the nation’s founding fathers fought for. In his 2022 Democracy Day message, Obaseki emphasized the importance of unity and freedom in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
The governor stated, “As we commemorate Democracy Day, I urge Nigerians to uphold the ideals of our nation’s founding fathers, who tirelessly fought for an independent Nigeria rooted in justice and equity.” He highlighted the significance of learning from the country’s democratic experiences, saying, “Our democratic sojourn has taught us valuable lessons on the importance of freedom and unity in the face of diversity.”
Obaseki acknowledged the challenges Nigeria has faced since its return to democratic rule in 1999 but encouraged citizens to remain committed to the democratic process. He emphasized that democracy is a self-renewing process and that Nigerians must work together to achieve the country’s promise as a great nation.
The governor concluded by urging Nigerians to “recommit to the process of renewing ourselves and working in unison to make our country live up to its promise as the greatest black nation on earth.”
