As the sports community gears up for the much-anticipated 2024 National Youth Games, taking place in Asaba, Delta State, the focus now turns to Edo State, which is set to host the South-South Zonal elimination games.
These competitive events, aimed at providing teams with the chance to qualify for the 8th Edition of the National Youth Games, are scheduled to run from Wednesday, August 28, through Sunday, September 1, 2024.

The Programme of events signed by Mrs. A.P. Efe-Amenze, Director of Sports Development and Operations for the Edo State Sports Commission, outlines the various venues earmarked for specific sporting activities, ensuring that athletes will compete in facilities that are well-equipped for their respective disciplines. Competitions are set to take place in several prestigious venues throughout the city, allowing each sport to shine in apt surroundings. Notably, the Indoor Sports Hall at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium will play host to the Handball contests, a promising setup for both competitors and spectators alike.
In addition to Handball, the games will feature a range of sports at designated locations, reflecting the diversity and richness of talent in the South-South region.
Hockey will be contested at St. Maria Gorretti College, situated along Upper Sokponba Road.
Beach Volleyball athletes will compete at Ihogbe College on ICE Road, a popular spot for local and regional events.
Cricket matches for boys and girls are scheduled at Edo Boys College and Iyoba College respectively, nurturing the next generation of cricket enthusiasts.
