Youths Beat Two Policemen to Death After Accident in Akoko Edo
A horrifying incident in Ikpeshi area of Akoko Edo, Edo State, resulted in the tragic deaths of two policemen who were beaten to death by angry youths following a fatal accident involving their convoy and a motorcycle.
The policemen, part of the escort for a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Agbaje, found themselves in a dire situation when their convoy collided with a motorbike, leading to the death of the rider and the passenger.
Irate youths stormed the Edo State Security Volunteer Network office, where the injured officers were taken, and ruthlessly attacked two of them, causing fatalities. The vigilante group managed to rescue the other officers, who are currently receiving medical treatment.
The community was in chaos as the angry mob also vandalized the security office and threatened those who attempted to intervene on behalf of the police officers.
According to the police source, “A Toyota Hilux van carrying four police officers: Inspector Brownson Brown, Inspector Abubaka Fakkuk, Sergeant Taiye Ojiefo, and Sergeant. A motorcycle carrying a woman and child through the Ikpeshi community collided with Elisha John, who was assigned to Police Mobile Force 19 Port Harcourt and was on escort duty with Emmanuel Agbaje, a former member of the Edo State House Assembly.
“During the process, the passenger and rider passed away instantly, and in response, a vengeful mob attacked the police, killing Sergeant Elisha John and Inspector Abubaka Fakku while two others are being treated at Ifejola Hospital in Igarra.”
While the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident, more details are awaited as investigations continue.
Chairman of Akoko-Edo council, Tajudeen Alade, denounced the violent actions of the youths and praised the vigilante group for their efforts in trying to save the officers. He reassured the public that those responsible for the attack would face justice and vowed support for the bereaved family members.
