Edo State Education Stakeholders Laud Governor Obaseki’s Revolutionary Policy Reforms
Education stakeholders in Edo State, including Prof. Emmanuel Aluyo, Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University Uzairue, and Prof. Abiodun Falodun, Rector of Edo Polytechnic Usen, have praised Governor Godwin Obaseki for introducing a groundbreaking education policy aimed at transforming the state’s education sector.
The new policy is set to bring about significant improvements in teaching and learning outcomes, enhance vocational and technical education, and build on the successes of the Edo State Basic Education Sector Transformation (EdoBEST) program, which has been expanded to cover all levels of learning in the state.
Key reforms introduced by the policy include the disarticulation of junior and senior secondary schools, the introduction of a multi-campus system for state-owned tertiary institutions, the prosecution of parents and guardians of out-of-school children, and the training of 2,000 new teachers in ICT skills and digital pedagogy.
Prof. Falodun commended Governor Obaseki for the policy, stating, “With EdoBEST 2.0, tertiary institutions will be able to produce market-ready graduates equipped with 21st-century skills.” He added that the policy will strengthen vocational skills and enable dynamic policy-making in tertiary education.
Prof. Aluyo hailed the governor’s initiative, noting that the policy will have a profound impact on the state’s education system. “Developing an educational policy for the state is commendable, especially at this time. Its impact cannot be overemphasized,” he said.
