Governor Monday Okpebholo has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of civil servants in Edo State, promising enhanced welfare packages and continued worker-friendly policies. The pledge was made during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo chapter, led by Acting Chairman Mr. Bernard Egwekhide, at Government House on Friday.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized his government’s commitment to fulfilling its obligations to Edo workers. “Whatever we are doing that benefits Edo workers is our duty as a government. Edo people elected us to serve, and we must deliver,” he stated.

He further highlighted the administration’s focus on transparency and collaboration. “We are committed to transparency in governance so the people can trust us. We also welcome constructive criticism; it helps us improve,” Okpebholo said.
He also noted the alignment of his administration’s goals with the federal government’s agenda, adding, “The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda provides us the platform to pursue practical and impactful governance.”
According to Governor Okpebholo, the government is actively promoting unity, growth, and development throughout Edo State while maintaining collaborative relationships across all tiers and senatorial zones.

Mr. Egwekhide, in his address, congratulated the governor on his recent tribunal victory confirming his 2024 election win and lauded the administration’s worker-friendly initiatives and developmental progress. “Edo workers are proud of your ongoing developmental efforts and commitment to staff welfare,” he affirmed.
He specifically acknowledged several key achievements, including the prompt payment of the 13th-month salary, a significant increase in Ambrose Alli University’s subvention from N41 million to N500 million, and the regularization of casual workers.
“The raise in monthly pension payments from N50 million to N1 billion for state and local government retirees” was also highlighted as a significant improvement in worker welfare. Furthermore, Egwekhide mentioned the establishment of a committee to review the compulsory pension scheme, with its final report anticipated soon. “We appreciate the many employment opportunities created within this short period,” he added.
The meeting concluded with expressions of mutual respect and commitment to continued collaboration between the state government and the NLC to further enhance the welfare of Edo State workers.
In a separate engagement, Governor Okpebholo also received Mr. Apanke Utande, the newly appointed CBN Branch Controller, at Government House, further demonstrating the administration’s active engagement with key institutions in the state.
