Edo Govt. to enforce statewide compliance on vehicle documentation
The Edo State Government has announced that on November 1, 2022, the state will begin enforcing a Motor/Vehicle Documentation Compliance Measure.
The enforcement drive is a component of strategic measures implemented to safeguard lives and property in the state, according to a statement issued by Hon. John Inegbedion, Chairman of the Edo State Task Force on Internal Generated Revenue (IGR), Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS).
He said, “The Edo State Government is going to start a Statewide Motor/Vehicle Documentation Compliance Exercise on November 1, 2022, as part of strategic measures put in place to secure lives, property, and ensure compliance by motorists. This announcement is hereby made for the general public’s information, particularly motorists.”
“The purpose of the exercise is to ensure that drivers have valid driving and vehicle documentation. To that end, the Edo State Traffic Management Agency (EDSTMA), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs), Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS), and Security Agencies will be physically present on our roads at all private and public motor, tricycle, and motorcycle parks.
“Documents expected to be possessed by motorists are: Valid Vehicle license, Valid Driver’s license, Valid Number Plate, Valid Certificate of Road Worthiness, Valid Hackney Carriage and Valid Vehicle Insurance Cover,” Inegbedion added.
He stated, “Motors with expired licenses and documentation are by this announcement advised to visit the nearest EIRS Offices across the state and not to patronize tout of non-government officials in order to avoid any form of embarrassment.”
He went on, “To be clear, drivers who are caught breaking the law will face immediate legal action in accordance with current traffic laws.”
