Benin City Chosen as Host for International Youth Day 2023
The Edo State Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs is gearing up to orchestrate the 2023 International Youth Day festivities, scheduled from August 10th to 12th in the historic city of Benin.
This year’s theme, “Intergenerational Solidarity: Creating a World for All Ages and Encouraging Green Skills for Youth—Towards a Sustainable World,” underscores the commitment to fostering unity and environmental stewardship among young people.
Eire Ifueko Alufohai, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, announced that the Wellspring University Campus in Benin City will serve as the venue for this global observance. International Youth Day is celebrated worldwide to spotlight the pivotal role of youth in driving economic growth and constructing nations.
Alufohai emphasized, “This year’s celebration is dedicated to nurturing bonds and cooperative efforts among various age groups to advance the state and nation’s progress. It’s designed to kindle the entrepreneurial spirit in young individuals and equip them with modern skills that align with the demands of today’s socio-economic landscape, setting them on the path to realizing their full potential.”
The event is a collaborative endeavor between the Edo State Government, the German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), and Romanspage Global Services Nigeria Limited. It is expected to draw around 300 young participants from throughout the state.
The agenda includes an intensive two-day boot camp from August 10th to 11th, culminating in a grand Youth Day Celebration on August 12th at Wellspring University, situated in the Irhirhi/Ogbaneki area, just off Airport Road in Benin City.
