Akoko-Edo local government Liaison officer Hon Jeffrey Obasanmi has flagged off the construction of water borehole projects to mitigate water challenges in the area.
Speaking at Akuku, Onumu and Ogugu communities in the LGA, the Liaison officer disclosed that the provision of clean portable water was critical to the survival of the growing population of the people, explaining that as a government, the local council was determined to eliminate all forms of water-borne diseases which according to him, has characterized the locality.
“Water is life, and we feel it is more topical due to the critical need to provide portable water for our people.
“We also have a mandate within our four months in office to completely stamp out kidnapping in Akoko-Edo, which has made us to be on news in recent times.
He noted that locals still go to the stream to fetch water despite the prevalence of environmental challenges.
“People still go to streams and small rivers in search of water, despite incidence of water-borne diseases. We have decided to flag off this project in the three communities due to their strategic location. Over time, we shall replicate all of these initiatives in other communities. ”
Hon Obasanmi who noted that the essence of governance is to alleviate the suffering of the masses through the provision of life-touching projects especially rural areas where there are more people, appreciated Governor Godwin Obaseki for the opportunity given him to serve.
