The Nigerian University Games Association has announced that the 2023 NUGA trials for athletes to the World University Games will be held in Edo State, in partnership with the University of Benin. The trials are set to take place in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, from May 8 to May 14.   According to a statement from NUGA’s Acting Secretary General, Chidiebere Ezeani, the trials will take place at Benin City’s Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and include seven sports: badminton, judo, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and tennis.   Along with fresh competitors vying for a position on the Nigerian squad competing at the World University Games, the tournament will showcase athletes who excelled at the 26th NUGA Games.   “We have the best facilities in Nigeria, and we are happy to host NUGA and university athletes” said Philip Shaibu, the deputy Governor of Edo.     “We also want to develop sports from the ground up, and this is a great opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment.”   Prof. Lilian Salami, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, stated […]
