Chinese Business Community Donates N70 Million Worth of Food to Support Vulnerable Edo State Residents During Festive Season
In a heartwarming gesture, the Chinese Business Community in Edo State has generously donated food items worth N70 million to assist vulnerable individuals during the festive season.
The donation, presented to the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie (ESQ) on December 21, 2022, forms part of the Edo State Public/Private Sector Humanitarian Initiative 2022.
Expressing gratitude for the support, the SSG acknowledged the global economic challenges precipitated by the post-COVID-19 era, which have made life difficult for many people. He urged other stakeholders to collaborate with the government in taking care of the vulnerable population within the state.
The SSG stated, “We are pleased with this support. We appreciate the Chinese Business Community. And I urge other communities, our brothers and sisters in Diaspora, and other stakeholders to emulate the Chinese community in supporting government initiatives to make life better for Edo residents. As a government, we are ready to support in creating a business-friendly environment for all. Our support is, however, within what the law permits.”
Mr. Sun Yu, representing the Chinese Business Community, expressed their satisfaction with the favorable business environment in Edo State. According to him, this donation is a demonstration of their support for the government’s initiative and was given in the spirit of Christmas.
He further stated, “The government has been able to create a safe investment environment which has continued to attract Chinese enterprises. In addition, the people of the State have been friendly and welcoming. As a result, more and more expatriates, especially Chinese people, are seeing Edo State as an important investment destination. Chinese enterprises have become partners in progress in the development of the economy of the State and Nigeria.
“We have been direct employers of labor and have also created a large number of local employment opportunities through supporting businesses. We will continue to contribute to the development of Edo State and the well-being of the people. Today’s donation is a demonstration of our support for the development of Edo State and our love for the people.
“This is also our way of saying to the government and people of Edo State, ‘we appreciate your love for the Chinese community in Edo State.'”
The donated items included bags of rice, beans, cartons of noodles, and tomato paste, aimed at supporting the Edo State Public/Private Sector Humanitarian Initiative 2022. The State Government’s intention is to ensure that vulnerable individuals have an easier time celebrating Christmas this year.
Efforts are underway to ensure that the donated items reach the intended vulnerable persons within the state, spreading joy and relief during the festive season.
