The Office of the Edo State First Lady has commended Super FM Radio for its commitment to producing programs that uplift women and children in the state. Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, Coordinator of the First Lady’s Office, expressed her enthusiasm during a meeting with representatives from the radio station at the Government House in Benin City.
Highlighting the vital role women play in shaping society, Mrs. Anani praised Super FM for providing dedicated platforms to address issues affecting women. “I was excited to learn about your dedicated programmes for women, as they are the bedrock of every society. I want to address women’s issues and support those experiencing domestic violence. Having programmes that tackle these issues is crucial for creating a better and healthier society. Such platforms help girls know they can overcome challenges because others have done so. I always tell people that women possess immense strength; we just need to amplify it and let our voices be heard.” she stated.
Mrs. Anani also expressed support for the station’s annual “Little Queen” program, held in commemoration of Children’s Day, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young minds. “I always tell people that the children we have today are the leaders of tomorrow, and what we give to them today shapes how our society becomes tomorrow. It’s crucial to inculcate positive values during these formative years,” she noted.

Gbenga James, General Manager of Super FM Radio, affirmed the station’s dedication to promoting the well-being of women and children. “We understand the place, the position, and the role of the woman in every family. And we don’t take it for granted, so we deliberately created some content that promotes the lot of the woman and the lot of the girl child,” he said.
James further explained the station’s commitment to balanced programming. “In everything we do, we spare thought for the woman and for the girl child, because we feel that it’s that balance that we need in the society, and it can always help us to move forward if we have that. We are also deliberate because Super FM is not only operating in Edo State. So everywhere we are, we create content that promotes women. And here in Edo State, it’s not an exception. We have a programme called Today’s Woman.”

Speaking on the “Little Queen” program, James detailed its focus on showcasing the talents and knowledge of young girls from across Edo State’s 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
“There is a programme we do annually to commemorate the Children’s Day. We call it the Little Queen. We use the face of the girl child to celebrate the Children’s Day annually. And there is a package in the programme; we have the Little Queens aged between 5 and 10, drawn from the 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the State. What we do with the kids is first, they display the cultural costumes of the different LGAs that they represent. We also put them through some IQ tests to test how smart they are, and how well they know the State and the local governments that they represent. And inside that packed programme that they have on every Children’s Day, we have an inter-school debate, inter-school quiz, as well as cultural dance; different dances of the different people of the State.”
The General Manager concluded by requesting the continued support and partnership of the First Lady’s Office, particularly in the areas of women’s empowerment and mother and child programs.
