Edo Government Doubles Down on Local Governance, Prioritizes Security and Grassroots Development

The Edo State Government has reiterated its dedication to bolstering local government administration, focusing on security enhancement, infrastructure development, and economic empowerment across its 18 local government areas.

This commitment was reaffirmed on Thursday by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Lucky Eseigbe, during an address to journalists in Benin City.

Eseigbe emphasized the critical role of local governments in ensuring citizen security and improving overall well-being, stating that the Gov. Monday Okpebholo-led administration is steadfast in its mission to create a secure and attractive environment for both local and international investors.

“The people at the grassroots voted for this administration, and we have no excuse not to provide them with security,” Eseigbe asserted.

To this end, the government is prioritizing capital projects that directly benefit Edo citizens. Key initiatives include ensuring access to potable water throughout the state and constructing accessible roads to facilitate transportation and economic growth.

“Others are improving waste management and environmental hygiene and providing a reliable electricity supply to power homes and businesses,” the commissioner elaborated.

Local government chairmen have been specifically tasked with implementing these initiatives to ensure tangible progress at the grassroots level. The state government, according to Eseigbe, will provide continued supervision and support to local government councils in executing projects that improve the lives of residents.

Furthermore, the Edo State Government is actively championing agricultural development, urging local government councils to take a leading role in reviving farming to boost food security and drive economic growth within their respective jurisdictions.

Environmental hygiene also remains a top priority. Eseigbe directed local government councils to enhance waste management efforts in markets and public spaces, ensuring cleaner and healthier communities.

“With these measures, the administration aims to deliver lasting dividends of democracy to citizens across the state,” Eseigbe concluded, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for all Edo residents through effective and responsive local governance.
