Edo Government Steps Up Surveillance, Assures Safe Release of PDP Chairman

Following the distressing incident of the abduction of the Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Tony Aziegbemi, by a group of armed individuals near his residence in the Government Reservation Area of Benin City, the capital of Edo State, actions have been swiftly initiated to address the situation.

The Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Hon. Chris Nehikhare, affirmed that the Edo State Government is actively engaged in resolving the unfortunate kidnapping of Dr. Tony Aziegbemi. Assuring the public of the government’s commitment to the safety of its citizens, Nehikhare stated that collaborative efforts with security agencies are underway to secure the safe release of the PDP Chairman and ensure his reunion with his family

He said, “The government is collaborating with security services to guarantee Dr. Tony Aziegbemi’s safe release and return to his family.  Along with stepping up security and surveillance throughout the State, we want to make sure that these illegal activities are stopped and that those responsible are held accountable.

“We urge people to report any suspicious individuals or activities in their neighborhood by calling the State’s emergency numbers, 112 or 739, and to go about their lawful business without fear.”

The government reaffirms that it is dedicated to safeguarding the lives and property of Edo residents and that it will use all available means to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are caught and brought to justice.

It was reported that at approximately 11 p.m. on Friday, Aziegbemi’s kidnappers, who were reportedly driving two Toyota Corollas, followed him and passed his jeep on Odaro Street off Country Home Road near his home.

After leaving a meeting at the Government House, the Edo PDP chairman was reportedly on his way home when he was abducted in front of his driver, who was trying to get over a speed limit.
