Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has charged the 206 pilgrims embarking on the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, to exhibit exemplary conduct and discipline and reflect the core values of Edo State throughout their journey.
The governor conveyed this message during a farewell ceremony held at the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board office in Benin City on Tuesday.
Representing Governor Okpebholo, the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikhilor, urged the pilgrims to uphold the state’s reputation for discipline and integrity. “As you travel, carry the values defining us. Be disciplined and represent Edo with dignity. Let your behaviour reflect your faith’s teachings. He also implored the pilgrims to pray for peace, unity, and national progress while in Mecca. Ikhilor stated.
The governor commended the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board for their diligent preparations, emphasizing that their commitment and responsibility were crucial for a successful and well-organized pilgrimage.
Mallam Muhammad Uduimoh, chairman of the state Muslim Pilgrims Board, expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his invaluable guidance, unwavering support, and strong encouragement. He affirmed that the governor’s logistical, financial, and moral support had facilitated seamless, safe, and well-coordinated preparations for the 2025 Hajj.
Uduimoh confirmed that the Edo pilgrims are scheduled to depart for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
Alhaji Eranga MuhammadKabir, the Executive Secretary of the Edo Muslim Pilgrims Board, disclosed that this year’s contingent comprises 120 males and 86 females.
Speaking on behalf of the pilgrims, Amir Hajj, HRH Mallam Ali Sulayman, the Oghieaga of Ibvie, Etsako East, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Governor for his consistent support and for promoting religious harmony across all communities in Edo State. He commended Governor Okpebholo’s efforts in fostering a peaceful and inclusive environment for all residents.
