The Edo State government has categorically refuted ongoing rumors suggesting that local government employees are experiencing salary delays amid a supposed crisis in various councils. In an official statement released from Benin City, Mr. Fred Itua, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Monday Okpebholo, described these claims as unfounded and malicious, aimed at misleading the public.
“It is crucial for the public to recognize that these rumors are the work of mischief makers envious of the significant accomplishments achieved by Governor Okpebholo’s administration since its inception in November 2024,” Itua stated, urging citizens to dismiss the false narratives circulating in the media.
The chief press secretary emphasized the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of all state workers, asserting that every government employee—local council workers included—has received their salaries on time, with all payments current as of January 2025.
“As a result of this total commitment, the state government has continued to pay the salaries of local government workers without fail since assuming office,” Itua said.
He further highlighted the impressive nature of this achievement, especially in light of ongoing challenges related to local government fund allocations stemming from a legal dispute involving local government chairpersons.
“Governor Okpebholo’s pragmatic approach in ensuring that no Edo worker, irrespective of status, is made to pass through undue hardship, is a testament to his zeal for workers’ welfare,” Itua concluded, reaffirming the administration’s dedication to maintaining financial support for all employees across the state.
