Edo Govt Begins Evaluation Program for 2022/23 Promotion

In a significant step toward professional development and advancement, the Edo State Government has successfully wrapped up an extensive training initiative for Civil/Public Service officers poised for promotion in 2022 and the onset of 2023.

The two-day educational event, hosted at the prestigious John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), catered to officers within the Salary Grade Levels 07 to 16. The Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., addressed the attendees with vigor, highlighting the state’s Civil/Public Service’s reputation for excellence and proficiency.

Okungbowa fervently stated, “This program fills us with excitement, and we are committed to its continuity. The era of withholding promotions from deserving officers is over. From now on, the path of career progression in Edo State’s Civil/Public Service will be clear and unobstructed.”

The Head of Service conveyed his trust in the officers’ capabilities to achieve outstanding performance in their respective roles. He relayed Governor Godwin Obaseki’s amazement at the rapid advancements made by the service in a brief timeframe.

He lauded the officers for quickly embracing the e-governance policy and integrating it into their workflow. He declared with pride that Edo State is a paragon of e-governance and procurement adherence, setting a standard for other regions.

Expressing his best wishes for the officers’ success, the Head of Service reaffirmed the state’s policy of conducting training and assessments prior to promotions. He called on the officers to exert their utmost effort, confident in their potential for excellence. He reassured the attendees of the high caliber of the facilitators, who are entrusted with delivering meaningful and impactful sessions.

Moreover, he motivated them to fully engage with the training, underscoring its dual role in both evaluation and skill enhancement.

The training encompassed vital topics such as the implementation of Edo S.T.E.P, the role of Civil/Public Service in E-Government, adherence to Civil Service Rules and the EDSG Code of Ethics, the EDSG’s goals and the M.E.G.A Agenda, management of expenditures, computer literacy, and an overview of the Edo State Public Procurement Law.

Upon the training’s completion, a computer-based assessment is slated for Saturday, October 14th, 2023, between 8 am and 4 pm.

This assessment will play a pivotal role in determining the elevation of officers within the State Civil/Public Service from salary grade levels 07 to 16, facilitating their ascent to the subsequent echelon of their careers.
