In a resolute move to regulate the healthcare landscape, Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samuel Alli, emphasizes that no healthcare practitioner should operate in the state without the Ministry of Health’s approval.
Dr. Alli made this declaration during a press briefing on healthcare regulation at the Ministry of Health in Benin City, highlighting his commitment to ensuring adherence to medical standards and the registration of all healthcare providers in Edo State.
Under the commissioner’s supervision, numerous facilities deviating from their designated areas of practice have already been closed down, including medical laboratories, hospitals, nursing homes, community pharmacies, and patent medicine stores.
A staggering 108 establishments have been sealed, revealing the extent of unregistered and unsafe practices compromising public safety.
To further protect the people, Dr. Alli emphasizes the need for qualified personnel in healthcare facilities. He firmly warns against engaging unqualified individuals and reminds aspiring nursing educators to obtain proper approval from relevant authorities before opening nursing schools.
