Edo Govt Denies ‘Anti-Bad Governance Protest and Rally’ Notice, Warns Against APC’s Manipulative Tactics
The Edo State Government has debunked a fake protest notice circulating on social media, clarifying that it did not originate from Rev. Olu Martins, Deputy Director General for Media and Publicity of the PDP Campaign Council.
In a statement, Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Osa Nehikhare revealed that the fake notice, titled “Anti-Bad Governance Protest and Rally,” is a deliberate ploy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to incite unrest and manipulate the upcoming September 21 governorship election.
Nehikhare stated, “The APC is orchestrating this fake protest notice to frame Edo State Government officials and PDP leaders, aiming to discredit them ahead of the election. This is a desperate attempt to sway public opinion and undermine the democratic process.”
He emphasized that the notice lacks authenticity, saying, “This unsigned message is a clear fabrication, and citizens should disregard it entirely. The APC’s tactics are transparent, and we urge the public to remain vigilant.”
Nehikhare also referenced a previous petition by the APC, which listed 22 PDP members for arrest, alleging their involvement in a violent incident on Airport Road in Benin City. He claimed this was another attempt to disrupt the peace and manipulate public perception.
The Commissioner reassured the public, saying, “Edo State Government remains committed to maintaining law and order. We urge citizens to go about their daily activities without fear, as we work to ensure a peaceful and fair electoral process.”
