Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State recently hosted Joseph Tegbe, the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), signaling a strong intent to attract Chinese investment and boost the state’s economic development.
The meeting, held in Benin City, builds upon previous discussions with the Edo State Investment Promotion Office (ESIPO) and its Managing Director, Mr. Amen Odigie.
The core of the discussion revolved around potential collaborations aimed at driving development within Edo State by leveraging Chinese investments in crucial sectors, including agriculture, agro-processing, mining, and infrastructure development.
This initiative aligns directly with Governor Okpebholo’s administration’s commitment to transform Edo State through strategic investments in infrastructure and other key capital projects, a vision articulated within his “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo.” The ultimate goal is to cultivate an environment where citizens can realize their full potential.
“This meeting marks a significant step towards deepening economic ties between Nigeria and China at the state level,” commented an official source.
Tegbe emphasized the potential for mutual benefit arising from strategic investments, linking these opportunities to the broader objectives of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Nigeria and China. The NCSP’s core mission is to rebalance Nigeria-China trade, ensuring mutual benefits and the strengthening of vital economic ties between the two nations.
The NCSP is also focusing on driving strategic investments and key projects to promote industrialization, economic diversification, and long-term sustainable growth, directly supporting the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The positive outcome of this meeting lays the foundation for future collaborations. These collaborations have the potential to significantly reshape the economic landscape of Edo State and other sub-national regions within Nigeria, ushering in an era of prosperity through carefully targeted investments and strategic partnerships.
