The Edo State Government introduced the cutting-edge fleet management software, “Mega Connect”. This initiative aims to enhance cost-effectiveness and maximize the utilization of the State’s vehicular assets.

By implementing this innovative solution, the government plans to reduce fuel and maintenance expenses, ensure equitable distribution to all State Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, and establish a centralized vehicle management system to elevate service delivery within the public sector of the State.

Unveiled on October 13th, 2022, at the New Festival Hall, Government House in Benin City, this digital mobility solution aligns with the State’s e-governance commitment. Against the backdrop of challenging economic conditions and declining federal revenues, the Edo State Government is steadfast in its drive to streamline costs for governance to allocate resources towards critical infrastructure and socio-economic development. The recent consolidation of MDAs from 107 to 72 attests to this overarching strategy.

Under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s leadership, the Edo State Government has prioritized revenue generation through strategic interventions that promote investment, business growth, and a conducive business environment. By investing in quality infrastructure, security, effective land and tax administration systems, and expanding into the tourism sector, the State is experiencing a resurgence of economic prosperity, leading to a steady increase in internally generated revenue (IGR).

During the launch event, Mrs. Sarah Esangbedo Ajose-Adeogun, the Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Strategy, Policy, Projects, and Performance Management articulated that the adoption of the technology-driven fleet management system is aimed at enhancing service delivery to the State’s residents and civil servants, heralding a new era of efficiency and effectiveness in governance.

Ajose-Adeogun states, “His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, has come up with several creative solutions as a result of our burning desire to continue serving the people as a responsible government in light of the diminishing resources. We recognized that in order to meet our targets of becoming the greatest place to live and prosper by 2050, we must take on these challenges head-on, which is why we announced last month that we were reducing the number of MDAs from 107 to 72. Today we are happy in Edo State because salaries are being paid on time, whereas in time past, workers were owed salaries for even more than six (6) months, meanwhile, they were still expected to be working”

“The utilization of technology for fleet management would result in a significant decrease and optimization of operating and maintenance expenses, prolong vehicle lifespan, provide real-time vehicle monitoring, and guarantee transparency on logistic requirements and tracking systems, thereby preventing the theft and misappropriation of EDSG vehicles for personal or unauthorized purposes,” Ajose-Adeogun added.

Mr. Jaffer Zope Inegbedion, a consultant for the fleet management system, also presented on the EDSG workplace mobility solution and demonstrated how to use the Ride Share Application, which will soon be tested in the State.
