The Edo State Government has issued a stern warning to motorists, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic rules to prevent accidents, particularly during the festive season.
The authorities have highlighted the perils of over speeding and reckless driving, urging drivers to prioritize safety on the roads.
The caution follows the recent arrest of a commercial driver by Edo State Public Works Volunteers (PUWOV) for driving against the flow of traffic in Benin City. This enforcement action is part of an intensified effort to crack down on traffic offenders in the metropolis.
Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie, the Edo PUWOV Coordinator, disclosed this development during a press briefing, revealing that four individuals have been apprehended since the commencement of the campaign. He reiterated that any motorist found violating the state’s traffic laws will face legal consequences in line with existing regulations.
“As we enter the holiday season, we encourage drivers to refrain from nefarious acts, such as driving against traffic, speeding excessively, and improperly overtaking, among others that could endanger their lives and those of others,” Yusuf-Osagie stated.
As the government ramps up measures to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhance road safety during and after the holiday season, the public is urged to report traffic violators. Citizens can capture footage of offenders disregarding traffic laws and forward the videos to the designated WhatsApp number – 08132030846.
