Edo Holds 5-Day Intensive Training to Enhance Healthcare Services Across Local Government Areas
The Edo State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EDSPHCDA) organized a comprehensive 5-day capacity building training for health personnel.
The training, held at the prestigious John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Academy (JOOPSA), covered various modules aimed at equipping participants with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver efficient healthcare.
Representing the Governor, the Edo State Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa Esq., officially declared the training open.
Governor Obaseki’s commitment to providing quality healthcare for all Edo citizens, regardless of their social status, was reiterated in his opening address.
During the training, participants were urged by Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, to make the most of the program and apply the acquired knowledge to enhance their professional capabilities when they return to their respective Primary Health Centers (PHCs).
Prof. Akoria emphasized the continuous efforts by the State to upgrade PHCs and ensure they meet the required standards, with highly skilled professionals.
The Executive Secretary of the EDSPHCDA, Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, highlighted the objective of the training, which aimed to enhance relevant skills, knowledge, and behaviors necessary for high performance. The participants were expected to gain a better understanding of organizational skills, financial management, and effective resource management.
In an effort to encourage mothers to utilize the Edo PHCs, the Executive Secretary unveiled the Edo Starter Pack – a collection of essential post-delivery items provided free of charge to mothers who give birth at these facilities.
The training covered a wide range of modules, including the Edo State Public Service Rules and Regulations, Personal and Professional Effectiveness, Computer Appreciation, ECLAT usage, Branding, Public Health, Medical Officers’ Competency-Based Training, Health Safety and Environment, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Technology, Nursing and Midwifery, Medical Laboratory Science and Technology, Medical Record Management, Community Health Extension Work, and Administrative and PRS Staff Training.
Distinguished facilitators, such as Prof. Antoinette Ofili, Prof. Alphonsus Isara, Dr. Olumuyiwa Oluday, Mrs. Bose Igbinobaro, Mrs. Cordelia Irobomelu Ezimokhai, and Dr. Rock Amegor, shared their expertise and knowledge with the participants.
Mrs. Margaret Ekiuwa, one of the participants, expressed her appreciation for the training, noting that it broadened their knowledge and improved their effectiveness as health workers.
She emphasized the importance of delivering quality healthcare to bridge the gap between the rich and the poor, emphasizing that everyone deserves equal access to quality healthcare.
The training concluded with a practical session to evaluate the participants’ competencies, ensuring they were well-equipped and capable of delivering optimal healthcare services upon their return to their respective PHCs.
