The Edo State Government has announced a ban on unauthorized unions from collecting dues at haulage fee points throughout the state. Speaking in Benin on Wednesday, Mr. Oladele Bankole-Balogun, Executive Chairman of the Edo Inland Revenue Service (EIRS), condemned the practice as unacceptable.
“Only authorized revenue collectors are permitted to collect haulage fees through the issuance of revenue scratch cards,” Bankole-Balogun stated.
“Haulage fee points must remain dedicated to their primary purpose. By restricting haulage fee points to their primary functions, we minimize confusion and promote smoother operations.” he added.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to collaborating with all unions to maintain peace and order within Edo State, while firmly rejecting any illegal collection of dues.
In a bid to enforce this policy, the EIRS has informed security agencies about the new directive and instructed them to impose sanctions on violators. Bankole-Balogun urged all stakeholders to adhere to this directive and ensure compliance.
He reiterated the state’s dedication to efficient revenue collection and enhancing operational transparency at haulage parks, highlighting the importance of maintaining order in these essential service points.
