Edo State is gearing up for a significant upgrade in its public transportation sector as Edo Line Nigeria Ltd. prepares to officially commence operations on June 27, 2025. Governor Monday Okpebholo made the announcement on Tuesday, assuring commuters of improved travel options across the state.
During an inspection tour of the New Edo Line station in Edo South, Governor Okpebholo expressed his satisfaction with the progress, confirming the company’s readiness to begin full operations. “I came to see the progress here at the New Edo Line station. The vehicles are ready, and preparations are almost complete,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of a seamless launch.
The governor highlighted that Edo Line will significantly enhance both inter-city and intra-city mobility, offering residents a dependable, secure, and efficient alternative for public transport.
Oligbe Henshaw, Managing Director of the Edo State Transport Authority, affirmed the terminal’s preparedness, noting that essential facilities like CCTV systems and the control room will be fully functional by the inauguration date.
In addition to transportation advancements, Governor Okpebholo also inspected other key infrastructure projects, including Sapele Road, urging contractors to expedite work to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Li Ou Fu, CEO of CBC Group, assured the governor that the critical section of the road would be completed within two weeks.
