The Edo Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board has reported that only 200 intending pilgrims have completed payments for the 2025 Hajj, out of the 412 slots allocated to the state.
Mallam Musah Uduimoh, Chairman of the board, made this announcement on Wednesday during a meeting with members of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Edo chapter.
Uduimoh mentioned that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has extended the registration deadline from February 14 to mid-March, allowing more pilgrims to finalize their payments and registration.
“We have about 200 pilgrims who have already registered for this year’s Hajj to Saudi Arabia, out of the total number of 412 slots allocated to the state by NAHCON. But we are glad that NAHCON has extended the deadline for payment and registration to the middle of March from the initial February 15,” he explained.
The chairman expressed confidence that the board is committed to ensuring a successful pilgrimage, addressing previous challenges related to accommodation and catering. Uduimoh indicated plans to secure lodging closer to the Haram in Makkah, along with catering services that will offer local delicacies such as Eba, Fufu, and Amala.
Highlighting the role of the media, Uduimoh urged media professionals to assist in sensitizing the public about the Hajj process.
“We welcome this partnership and we are willing to collaborate with the media. The board needs media support in promoting its activities, specifically in publicizing the ongoing preparations for the 2025 Hajj,” he added.
Earlier, Abdul-Kadir Abdullah, Interim chairman of the MMPN in Edo, emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating that it aimed to introduce the organization in the state and strengthen ties with the board.
“As a body, we recognize the important role your office plays in facilitating Hajj processes for our Muslim brothers and sisters in the state and the need to support you. We are also out to promote the efforts of our Muslim leaders and organizations in the development of society,” he stated.
