Edo NULGE Hails Government’s Health Insurance Scheme, Vows to Mobilize Members

The Edo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has praised the State Government for making healthcare services accessible to the people through the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme (EdoHIS). The union also promised to support the Government by encouraging its members to join the scheme.

This was the result of a meeting between the Commissioner for Local Government, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo JP, the Director General of Edo Health Insurance Scheme, Dr. Rock Amegor, and the Edo NULGE officials and members.

At the meeting, Hon. Monday Osaigbovo said that the health and welfare of all public servants, especially those at the local government level, was crucial for having a productive workforce in the local councils. He said that the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration had shown a strong commitment to the health needs of the workers in the State.

He said, “Health is wealth, and this is why the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration is committed to improving and catering for the health needs of workers in the State. By joining the Health Insurance Scheme, local government workers in the State will have easy and affordable access to healthcare.”

Dr. Rock Amegor, the Director General of EdoHIS, also spoke at the meeting. He explained the Government’s role in ensuring a viable public service through investing in the healthcare needs of its workers.

He said, “Edo health insurance is for everyone, as it is designed to support and sustain the current reforms in the health sector by the State Government. Each health plan has its own benefits that cover all the health services an enrollee can access.” He added that the scheme gives an enrollee seamless access to quality healthcare.

The members and officials of NULGE applauded the EdoHIS as a commendable initiative by the State Government. The President of the Edo State NULGE, Mr. Lazarus Imokhai Adorolo, thanked the State Government for its efforts and pledged the union’s readiness to educate and mobilize its members to enroll and benefit from the scheme.

The Edo State Government, under its Healthcare Improvement Programme (EdoHIP), has remodeled over twenty (20) primary healthcare centres across the 18 Local Government areas of the State. The Government has also started enrolling residents into its Health Insurance Scheme.

The Edo State Health Insurance Scheme is an initiative of the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration, which is part of the health sector reforms in the State.

The Scheme aims to provide a comprehensive health package for public servants and all Edo indigenes and residents. Public servants and residents are therefore urged to take advantage of the State’s Health Insurance Scheme for easy and affordable access to quality healthcare.
