Edo partners PharmAccess Foundation, trains healthcare providers, evaluators
The Edo State Government has joined hands with PharmAccess Foundation, a renowned Dutch non-profit organization, to provide comprehensive training to healthcare providers and evaluators within the state.
The ultimate aim of this collaborative effort is to enhance the quality of primary and secondary healthcare facilities across all 18 local government areas of the state.
Led by the esteemed Edo State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, the training endeavors to equip state officials with the necessary skills to conduct effective quality assessments.
Prof. Akoria stated, “During the training, participants were taken through the safe care assessment data review and approval process. This is in preparation for field visits which commenced today, Tuesday the 18th of October.”
The first week of the training program involved classroom sessions to cover the theoretical aspect of the curriculum, along with conducting mock surveys and engaging in interactive hands-on sessions using the innovative SafeCare tools.
To ensure broad participation, trainees were selected from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within the Ministry of Health.
The primary objectives of the training include familiarizing participants with SafeCare standards and interpretation, the SafeCare quality improvement methodology and tools, conducting SafeCare assessments through hands-on mock surveys, developing and facilitating Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs), and sensitizing and preparing facilities for assessments.
PharmAccess Foundation, an international organization with a digital agenda, is dedicated to connecting more people in Sub-Saharan Africa with affordable and quality healthcare. Their unique quality improvement methodology, known as SafeCare, is specifically designed for resource-restricted healthcare facilities. Through internationally recognized standards, SafeCare provides a transparent improvement pathway that incentivizes clinics to consistently enhance their quality.
Prof. Akoria emphasized that this partnership between Edo State Government and PharmAccess Foundation is part of the administration’s commitment to achieving universal health coverage, a paramount goal for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s administration.
