Edo PDP: Obaseki sues for peace, appoints Igbinedion to chair Peace Committee for Victory in 2023 Elections

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has called upon all members of the Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to put aside their differences and unite in order to tackle internal conflicts within the party and ensure success in the upcoming 2023 general elections.

During a meeting with more than 135 PDP members, including representatives from the National Executive Committee, State Executive Committee, and Zonal Committee, held at the party Secretariat in Benin City, the governor emphasized the need for unity following the PDP’s defeat in the recent Ekiti State Governorship election, which was won by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an effort to avoid a repeat of the Ekiti incident in the 2023 presidential election, Governor Obaseki stressed the importance of resolving all issues within the party, fostering reconciliation among members, and working together to secure victory for the PDP.

Governor Obaseki proposed the formation of a peace committee, chaired by Chief Lucky Igbinedion, a former Governor of the State, to address internal disputes in the party. This committee, alongside three prominent leaders from each of the three Senatorial Districts, will strive to resolve conflicts within the next 30 to 60 days.

Highlighting the PDP’s progress in selecting a Vice Presidential running mate for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governor Obaseki asserted that the party is leading the way, whereas the ruling party is struggling to finalize its Vice Presidential candidate.

The purpose of the meeting, according to Governor Obaseki, was to promote peace within the PDP, as it is crucial for success in the 2023 presidential election. Addressing the internal wranglings within the party, Obaseki stressed that these conflicts have hindered the PDP’s progress in Ekiti State and must be resolved to propel the party forward.
