The Edo State Police Command has arrested twenty-two people in the state for armed robbery, cultism, and unlawful assembly. Among them is a 65-year-old herbalist.
The command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, was quoted by the News Agency of Nigeria as saying this during a Tuesday briefing in Benin.
Nwabuzor stated that on January 31, the command’s surveillance team apprehended the herbalist and an additional suspect in Benin.
According to him, they were taken into custody after an investigation into armed robbery and illegal gun possession.
The police spokesman stated that they had one pump action gun found on them.
Nwabuzor said that the police surveillance team had also detained two more people who were being held on suspicion of conspiring, illegally possessing a firearm, and armed robbery.
He said that in order to trick their victims, the gang engaged in armed robberies using a black Lexus SUV and a Mercedes GLK.
A pump action gun, four locally manufactured guns that were cut to size, and nine live cartridges were found within them, according to a spokesman for the command.
He mentioned that the suspects had admitted to robbing numerous people in Edo between Auchi and Benin.
