The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of Sergeant Aminu Yusuf, who was shot dead by armed assailants while escorting an expatriate in Benin City on July 16.
According to CSP Moses Yamu, the command’s spokesperson, the incident occurred along First East Circular Road when four armed men ambushed the team after a cash withdrawal from a bank.
The attackers opened fire, fatally wounding Sgt. Yusuf and escaping with his AK-47 rifle. Despite being rushed to a hospital, the officer was pronounced dead.
Yamu disclosed that two suspects have been apprehended, with an ongoing manhunt to capture the remaining fugitives and recover the stolen weapon.
Security operatives have intensified efforts to ensure justice and enhance safety in the region.
