Edo Police Crack Kidnapping Case, Recover Body of Victim in Forest

The Edo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the kidnapping of 42-year-old Edafe Oghenekome, announcing the arrest of three suspects linked to his abduction and murder.

The grim discovery of Oghenekome’s remains in the Igueladidi forest of Iguobazuwa, located in the Ovia West Local Government Area of Edo State, marks a crucial development in the case.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the suspects allegedly left the deceased’s body to decompose in the forest. The arrested individuals have been identified as 21-year-old Abdulsalam Mohammadu, 45-year-old Kehinde Adetunji, and 24-year-old Nasiru Yau.

The investigation gained momentum with the apprehension of Abdulsalam Mohammadu, which subsequently led to the arrest of Adetunji and Yau.

Police allege that Kehinde Adetunji, an indigene residing in the same community as the deceased, acted as the syndicate’s local informant. Nasiru Yau is accused of supplying food to the suspects while they were hiding in the forest.

Preliminary reports indicate that Edafe Oghenekome and one Favour Ighasa were abducted from their residence in Utese village, after Udo community, Ovia South West Local Government Area, on February 4, 2026. Favour Ighasa was released on February 9, 2026, but communication ceased regarding Oghenekome’s release.

Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, issued firm directives that every kidnapping case must be thoroughly investigated. The sustained investigative efforts led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
