The Senator Monday Okpebholo-led administration in Edo State has restated its commitment to fostering moral, spiritual, and cultural development across the state. This assurance was given at the grand finale of the 2025 Edo State Qur’anic Recitation Competition (Musaabaqah), held on Sunday, October 26, at the Otaru’s Palace in Auchi, Edo North Senatorial District.
Governor Okpebholo, who served as Chairman of the Occasion, was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq. In his remarks, he commended the organizers for their dedication to nurturing young Qur’anic scholars and advancing Islamic education in Edo.
The governor paid glowing tribute to the Otaru of Auchi, HRH Alhaji Aliru H. Momoh, Ikelebe III, describing him as a visionary leader who conceptualized and sustained the programme over the years. He emphasized that the competition has become a platform for moral reawakening, unity, and excellence among Muslim youths.
“This administration, under the leadership of Senator Monday Okpebholo, is committed to supporting initiatives that contribute to the spiritual, moral, and physical development of Edo people, irrespective of faith, tribe, or background,” he said.
Governor Okpebholo further assured that his government would continue to encourage religious activities that promote peace, unity, and social values, stressing that Edo remains a state that values inclusivity and diversity.
He urged participants to represent Edo with distinction at the forthcoming National Qur’anic Competition in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Speaking on behalf of the royal fathers, the Oghieaga of Ivbie, HRH Mallam Ali Sulayman, commended the governor for his support, describing it as a demonstration of leadership that values faith and community development. He called on the Muslim community to continue offering prayers for the governor and his administration.
The Acting Coordinator of the Edo State Musaabaqah, Sheikh (Barr.) Hamza Usman Umar, announced that Edo would be represented by ten participants across different categories at the national competition. He revealed that the participants would undergo a one-month intensive training camp to prepare for the contest, expressing optimism about Edo’s chances of excelling.
The event attracted a wide array of dignitaries, including scholars, traditional rulers, government officials, and Muslim faithful. Among those who delivered goodwill messages were the Minister of Regional Development, Hon. (Engr.)
Abubakar Momoh (represented by HRH Mallam Ali Sulayman), the Chairman of the Edo State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Mallam Musa Muhammad Uduimoh, and the Managing Director of the Edo State Small Town and Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (STRUWASSA), Hon. Okhakumhe Murtala Muri.
The 2025 Qur’anic Recitation Competition not only celebrated the intellectual and spiritual growth of young scholars but also reinforced Edo State’s reputation as a hub of cultural inclusivity, religious tolerance, and moral excellence.
