The Edo State government is gearing up to host the South-South zonal eliminations of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin City, featuring teams from Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River competing for a chance to qualify for the national events scheduled for May in Ogun.
The elimination matches will take place from February 23 to 28, at various sporting venues across Benin, including the renowned Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Amadin Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, expressed confidence in the state’s readiness for the upcoming competition, stating, “Edo is always ready for sports. We are known for our hospitality, and our facilities, including those at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, are in excellent condition. We are set to deliver a hitch-free and memorable zonal elimination.”
The elimination will feature both male and female teams competing in sports such as football, abula, handball, cricket, basketball, beach volleyball, hockey, and volleyball, employing a round-robin format. Each team will play against one another, with the top performers moving on to the knockout stages for a chance to represent the South-South region at the NSF.
Sports enthusiasts can look forward to an action-packed week as teams vie for supremacy and an opportunity to shine on the national stage.
