Edo State Embarks on Upgrade of 55 Primary Healthcare Centres

Dr. Omosigho Izedonmwen, Executive Secretary of the Edo State Primary HealthCare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), has announced that the state government has identified 55 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the 18 local government areas for comprehensive upgrades.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to revamp the primary healthcare system and ensure accessible, quality healthcare services in rural areas.

Izedonmwen explained that the upgrade is a critical component of the Primary Health Care Reform Project, aimed at transforming the state’s healthcare landscape. “Our goal is to strengthen the delivery of affordable and quality healthcare services, particularly in underserved communities,” he stated.
To inform the upgrade, EDSPHCDA conducted an on-site assessment of the 55 PHCs in collaboration with HDIT Integrated Service Limited. The assessment team, comprising public health experts, agency staff, civil engineers, and HDIT engineers, evaluated the facilities’ infrastructure, services, and adherence to national healthcare standards.
Izedonmwen emphasized that the state government is committed to enhancing the infrastructure, equipment, and staffing of the health facilities. The reform project also prioritizes the provision of essential drugs, capacity building, digital transformation, and community engagement to ensure holistic healthcare services.
