Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has announced the extension of the free bus service for an additional five months, until November 11, 2024. This move follows the success of the initial two-month pilot program launched in September 2023 to mitigate the effects of fuel subsidy removal on Edo residents.

The scheme, which has benefited over 1.5 million people, covers various intra and intercity routes operated by Edo City Transport Services (ECTS), including Auchi-Igarra-Ibillo-Ososo and Uzebba-Ikhin-Otuo, among others. Intra-city routes include Ramat-Kingsquare, New Benin-Kingsquare, and Kingsquare-Ekenwan Road, among others.
According to Edo State Transport Authority (ESTA) Managing Director, Mrs. Edugie Agbonlahor, the extension demonstrates the government’s commitment to the welfare of Edo people, particularly in the face of economic challenges. She encouraged residents to take advantage of the extended free bus service, assuring them of the government’s dedication to their well-being.
“The governor’s approval of the extension is a testament to the program’s success and the government’s dedication to the people’s welfare,” Agbonlahor said.
“We encourage all residents to utilize this service, which aims to alleviate the burden of transportation costs and enhance the overall quality of life in Edo State.”
