In a formal ceremony held on Tuesday, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State inaugurated six new commissioners, expanding the State Executive Council and enhancing the cabinet’s capabilities.
The announcement was made by Mr. Umar Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government, in a statement issued from Benin City.
The newly appointed commissioners will oversee various critical sectors within the state. Mr. Paul Ohonbamu has been appointed to head the Ministry of Information and Communications. Meanwhile, Washington Osifo will assume the role of Commissioner for the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy.
In addition, Dr. Emmanuel Iyamu will take charge of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Lucky Eseigbe has been assigned to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Andrew Ijegbai will lead the Ministry of Mining. Lastly, Olabisi Idaomi has been entrusted with the responsibilities of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
According to Ikhilor, “All commissioners are expected to resume duties in their respective ministries immediately.”
The swift integration of these officials into their roles is intended to strengthen the state’s governance and ensure effective management of resources across various sectors.
