Edo State Ministry of Health Extends Urgent Aid to Flood Victims
The Edo State Government, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health, conducted an immediate assessment visit to flood-stricken communities in Etsako East, Etsako Central, and Esan North East local government areas.
During this visit, Commissioner for Health, Prof. Obehi Akoria, represented by Public Health Director Dr. Stephenson Ojeifo, reiterated the government’s deep concern for the victims’ welfare and pledged to address their needs promptly.
The primary objective of the visit was to evaluate the extent of damage, assess living conditions in the affected areas, and deliver essential medical supplies and healthcare services to individuals residing in the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDP) camp.
Prof. Akoria emphasized the importance of vigilance and compliance with disaster response directives, stressing that preserving lives takes precedence over material possessions.
Encouraging displaced residents to encourage others to seek refuge in the camp, she assured them that the government is leveraging all available resources to provide assistance. The displaced individuals were also advised to maintain clean surroundings, mitigate health risks posed by pests, and promptly report illnesses to health authorities.
Grateful for the Ministry of Health’s swift assistance, the flood victims expressed gratitude for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s support and appealed for additional provisions.
Notable moments from the visit included the distribution of medical supplies, health awareness materials, and essentials to the camp administrators by Ministry officials.
