Edo State Sets Course for Digital Transformation with Stakeholders

The Ministry of Digital Economy, Science, and Technology has taken a significant step towards accelerated development in Edo State by organizing a stakeholders’ meeting to shape a digital and technology policy.

The meeting, held in Benin City, gathered Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organizations, corporate organizations, and technology hubs to collaborate on reviewing existing policies and establishing a standardized framework for digital transformation across various sectors of the State.

Commissioner Bartholomew Brai expressed appreciation for the willingness of collaborators to participate in the policy development process. In today’s digital world, where efficiency goes hand in hand with technology adoption, Brai stressed the necessity of embracing digital advancements for organizations to thrive.

Highlighting Governor Obaseki’s commitment to digital transformation, Brai noted the establishment of the Ossiomo Power plant, which now supplies electricity to government offices, public facilities, and certain private establishments in the State. The State government places a high premium on leveraging digital technologies to enhance productivity and service delivery.

The Ministry of Digital Economy is collaborating with TECH4DEV, the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, and the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) to develop a digital economy policy and strategy document for the State.

Mr. Oluwafemi Awopegba, representing TECH4DEV, pledged to engage stakeholders from various MDAs working with the Ministry to identify challenges and provide solutions.

At the conclusion of the 5-day stakeholders’ meeting, the Convener and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Yuwa Naps, expressed gratitude to participants for their valuable contributions. Naps ensured that the policy derived from their insights would greatly benefit everyone, particularly in sectors such as health, agriculture, and education.
