Edo State Sports Development Gets Boost from Governor Okpebholo

Edo State’s sports development is undergoing a significant transformation thanks to the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo, according to Amadin Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission.

Enabulele made the comments during an inspection of Team Edo’s training camp at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, as athletes prepare for the 22nd National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, scheduled for May 16-30.

The inspection, detailed in a statement released by Media Officer Wilson Edoko, aimed to monitor athlete performance, bolster morale, and ensure thorough preparation for the upcoming national competition.

“The essence of this visit is to assess the performance of Team Edo athletes, boost their morale, and encourage them to stay focused and committed to training,” Enabulele explained.

He lauded Governor Okpebholo’s proactive support for sports, emphasizing its transformative impact on the state and, potentially, the nation. “Indeed, we are immensely grateful to our exceptional Governor, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for redefining sports development in Nigeria,” Enabulele stated. “I call him the real game changer for his unwavering support.”

Enabulele highlighted the commission’s talent-scouting initiatives launched under Okpebholo’s direction, designed to identify and nurture potential athletes at the grassroots level. “We have already commenced the task of discovering and nurturing raw talents,” he said, adding, “On behalf of the commission, we deeply appreciate the continuous support of our sports-loving governor.” These initiatives are focusing on communities and local governments throughout Edo State.

Looking ahead to the National Sports Festival, Enabulele expressed confidence in Team Edo’s chances. “They possess the winning spirit. We are not just participating, we are determined to emerge as champions,” he asserted, emphasizing the athletes’ and coaches’ dedication and preparation. The commission believes Team Edo is not only well-prepared but also driven by a strong desire to succeed.
