Edo Technology and Innovation Expo: Uniben PHD Student Developed One-Ton Truck to upgrade Agric Sector

The recently concluded Edo Technology and Innovation Expo held in Benin City saw inventors showcasing their remarkable creations with the potential to revolutionize the nation’s transport and agriculture sectors, given adequate funding and commercialization. Tech enthusiasts at the expo were filled with confidence as they unveiled their latest invention – a game-changing one-ton truck.

Labeled as the core theme of the expo, “Leveraging on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development,” the event brought together local inventors and key stakeholders from Edo State’s thriving tech community.

Institutions such as universities, polytechnics, technical colleges, as well as private innovators, artisans, and companies, proudly showcased their cutting-edge inventions.

One of the most groundbreaking exhibits was the University of Benin’s one-ton truck, which stood as a beacon of hope for the nation’s transport and agriculture industries. Other awe-inspiring innovations included an automatic fingerprint machine, a locally-made modular refinery with a daily production capacity of 5,000 liters capable of producing engine oil, kerosene, fuel, and gas, as well as a pyrolyzer, among other marvels.

According to Engr. Igbinosa Eghosa, a Ph.D. student of the Department of Production Engineering, University of Benin (UNIBEN), “The one-ton truck, when marketed, will reshape the vehicle and horticulture areas, meaning monetary development and success for the state and country.”

He said more than 80% of the materials utilized for the assembling of the truck, which runs at a speed of 75km/hour, is obtained locally, noticing that “this could create more employment opportunities for youths in the state.”

The innovator expressed that the assembling of the utility vehicle was to supplement the public authority’s endeavors at working on the economy of the state through transportation, adding, “There’s no economy in the world that is not driven by transportation.”

Eghosa further noted, “Transportation is exceptionally indispensable with regards to the advancement of any country. One of the least expensive ways of moving materials is by street, of which the vehicle is important for it and quite possibly of the least expensive auto that we can really have is something like this.

“This utility vehicle as you can see is sturdy; it is modest to keep up with in light of the fact that the parts are nearby and the motor is little and normal. Our ranchers need something like this. It tends to be utilized by those participated in private companies also.”
