Edo to Plant Trees in Schools, Enhances Waste Management system

The Edo State Government will launch a campaign to require all students in Edo schools to plant a tree in honor of their birthdays on Monday, September 12, 2022, the first day of the next academic year.
Speaking to reporters in Benin City, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the governor of Edo State, stated that his administration is still dedicated to providing a safe and supportive learning environment for students in Edo and that all of the state’s schools have mechanisms in place to ensure proper waste management.
He said, “I have instructed the Edo State Ministry of Education to ensure appropriate waste management in all of our schools and to install cleanup systems in each of them.
“I have also instructed all of our school principals to require students to plant trees as a way to celebrate their birthdays.”
He went on: “Every child in Edo State will now be required by their school principals to plant a tree in remembrance of their birthday. Tree planting and landscaping are important and now required in our schools in Edo State.
“In order to sustain our ongoing reforms in education, the Edo Ministry of Education will establish a parent council composed of representatives from every PTA in each of our schools in Edo State. Parents must work together with the government to train their children, and this council will provide a structured forum for parents to engage with us.”
“To safeguard our reforms, we are implementing system-wide changes, and the legal system will support all of our actions. I have given the Commissioner of Education the task of updating all state laws pertaining to education, including the SUBEB Law, the PPEB Law, and the Basic, Technical, and Vocational Laws. Our reforms must all become ingrained.” the governor added.
