Edo Urges Swift Payment for 2024 Hajj as Deadline Approaches
The Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, led by Sheikh Ibrahim Oyarekhua has announced the looming deadline for the payment of the highly anticipated 2024 Hajj fare. With a catchy tune of urgency, the prospective pilgrims are reminded that the payment cutoff date falls on December 31, 2023.
This crucial information was unveiled during a pre-Hajj awareness meeting held at the Arafat Central Mosque in Auchi on Thursday, November 16, 2023. Sheikh Oyarekhua passionately stressed the importance of settling the Hajj fare well in advance, allowing ample time for preparation ahead of the upcoming Hajj season.
To further emphasize the significance of timely action, it was reiterated that the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has imposed a minimum deposit of a staggering Four Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N4,500,000.00) until the final fare is announced. Additionally, the issuance of visas will commence on March 3, 2024, and conclude on April 29, 2024.
This announcement goes hand in hand with Saudi Arabia’s altered policy towards Hajj operations, aimed at remedying the issues faced by pilgrims in previous years. Sheikh Oyarekhua shed light on the changes, stating, “This time, the issuance of visas into Saudi Arabia will close 50 days before Arafat to ensure adequate preparation and prevent any last-minute complications.”
Understanding the immense significance of Hajj to the Muslim community, Sheikh Oyarekhua called upon the people of Edo State to actively spread the word about this new development. This is to ensure that no one misses out on the opportunity to partake in the life-altering journey to Hajj by 2024.
With Nigeria being allocated 95,000 slots, out of which Edo State secured 412 slots, the chairman expressed the need to exhaust the allotted slots and potentially request more. While acknowledging the increased cost of Hajj this year, he reassured the faithful, saying, “If Allah has destined you to make it, you will certainly make it.”
