The Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EdoSEMA) has launched an extensive on-the-spot assessment tour across the 18 local government areas (LGAs) of the State to strengthen disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
Led by the Executive Secretary of EdoSEMA, Hon. Jerry Idahosa, the initiative aims to identify communities vulnerable to environmental hazards such as erosion, flooding, and gully formation. The assessment tour is undertaken on the directive of Governor Sen. Monday Okpebholo.
Hon. Idahosa emphasized that the assessment efforts align with Governor Okpebholo’s vision to prioritize infrastructure, ensure sustainable development, and safeguard the welfare of all Edo residents. He noted that the primary objective of the tour is to proactively identify potential disaster hotspots and formulate practical recommendations for immediate and long-term interventions.

“This assessment is not just a routine inspection but a deliberate and strategic action plan… to build resilient infrastructure and create safer communities,” Hon. Idahosa stated.
Hon. Idahosa stressed the importance of cooperation among all tiers of government, local authorities, and affected communities in mitigating environmental challenges. “Emergency response is a collective task. We must all be part of the solution,” he added.
Local government chairmen visited during the assessment tour expressed appreciation for the initiative and pledged to collaborate with EdoSEMA in implementing recommended interventions. They emphasized the need for continuous cooperation and involvement of community leaders and residents in preventive measures.
The inspection tour, which has garnered widespread commendations, is expected to cover the remaining LGAs in the coming weeks. EdoSEMA has assured that no community will be left out and that specific environmental challenges will be duly documented and addressed.
EdoSEMA plans to roll out a statewide public awareness campaign to educate communities on disaster preparedness, emergency response strategies, and best practices in environmental management. Residents are encouraged to cooperate fully with the inspection team and report any signs of potential environmental threats.
