Endocrinologist Urges Diabetes Patients to Incorporate White Fish into Their Diet for Enhanced Immunity

Dr. Ayuba Mugana, an endocrinologist at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, has urged diabetes patients to increase their intake of white fish to strengthen immunity and promote a healthier lifestyle.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday, Dr. Mugana emphasized the nutritional benefits of white fish, which is characterized by its mild flavor and white flesh, distinguishing it from oilier varieties such as salmon and tuna. Common types of white fish include cod, haddock, and sole, all of which are celebrated for their culinary versatility.

Dr. Mugana, who specializes in disorders related to hormonal imbalances, including diabetes and thyroid diseases, highlighted that white fish is rich in crucial nutrients such as protein, potassium, iron, and zinc.

He stated, “Consuming the animal is important for the human heart, brain development, and maintaining normal blood levels. Fish is important for the nerve, bone, and muscles too.”

While advocating for the health benefits of white fish, Dr. Mugana also cautioned against the consumption of fish high in mercury, which can lead to significant health risks. He urged industries to refrain from polluting water sources with chemicals to prevent adverse effects on public health.
