FG Empowers Edo Farmers with 18,000 Bags of Fertilizers for 2024 Farming Season

In a bid to enhance food production, the Federal Government has distributed 18,000 bags of fertilizer to farmers in Edo State ahead of the 2024 farming season. This initiative is part of a larger effort to provide 1,652 million bags of fertilizers to farmers nationwide.

Mr. Bako Dogwo, State Chairman of the All Farmers’ Association of Nigeria (AFAN), announced this during a meeting with association members in Benin. He revealed that the Federal Government has paid over 80% of the counterpart fund, while farmers are expected to contribute at least 10% of the fertilizer cost.

Dogwo emphasized that the fertilizers are exclusively for genuine farmers, not “portfolio farmers.” He encouraged non-member farmers to join the association, which boasts over 40,000 registered farmers, to access benefits like inputs, training, and intervention programs.

The AFAN chairman also urged members to promote women’s participation in farming by encouraging them to join affiliate groups, where they can acquire farming techniques and benefit from government initiatives.
