FG Expands Higher Education Landscape with Approval of Eleven New Private Universities

The federal government of Nigeria has granted provisional licenses for eleven new private universities across the nation. This expansion aims to meet the growing educational demands and provide students with more diverse learning opportunities.

The announcement was made by Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, following a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Monday.

The new institutions include a mix of innovative universities located in various states. These are: New City University in Ayetoro, Ogun State; University of Fortune in Igbotako, Ondo State; Eranova University situated in Mabushi, Federal Capital Territory; and Minaret University, based in Ikirun, Osun State.

Additional newly approved universities comprise Abubakar Toyin University in Oke-Agba, Kwara State; Southern Atlantic University located in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State; Lens University in Ilemona, Kwara State; and Monarch University in Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State. Furthermore, two specialized institutions have also been recognized: Tonnie Iredia University of Communication in Benin City, Edo State; Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management in Lagos State; and finally, Kevin Eze University in Mgbowo, Enugu State.

The government’s approval marks a significant step towards diversifying available educational pathways and is expected to contribute positively to the academic landscape in Nigeria.
