In a strategic move to bolster Edo State’s executive leadership, Governor Monday Okpebholo has nominated four distinguished individuals as commissioner-designates.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through a formal statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, in Benin City.
The nominees—Dr. Jerry Uwangue, Mr. Kenneth Ihensekhien, Mr. Usenbo Ehigie, and Mr. Akhigbe Sunday—bring a wealth of experience from diverse sectors including engineering, law, public administration, and community development. Their names have been forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Dr. Jerry Uwangue, a veteran in Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, and Maintenance (EPCOM), has over 20 years of industry experience.
He currently serves as the Managing Director and CEO of J&G Engineering and Construction Services Ltd., and has earned multiple accolades for his contributions to local content development and business excellence.
Mr. Kenneth Ihensekhien (Ph.D), is a seasoned lawyer and political figure with a longstanding record of public service in Edo State. His previous roles include Minority Leader in the State House of Assembly, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor—positions that underscore his deep understanding of governance and legislative affairs.
Mr. Usenbo Ehigie is a legal expert and knowledge management strategist with more than two decades of experience across regulatory and legislative sectors.
He has held key roles such as General Manager for Regulatory Compliance at FGR Energy Services and served as a Senior Legislative Aide in the National Assembly, demonstrating his capacity for policy development and institutional oversight.
Mr. Akhigbe Sunday is widely respected for his work in grassroots mobilization and youth-focused initiatives. A technocrat and civic advocate, he has led programs that promote entrepreneurship, leadership development, and inclusive governance. His nomination reflects the administration’s commitment to community-driven progress.
According to Ikhilor, the incoming commissioners—once confirmed—are expected to inject new energy and perspectives into the state’s governance structure. Their appointments are part of Governor Okpebholo’s broader strategy to accelerate development across key sectors and deliver impactful results to the people of Edo State.
