Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has reinstated the N100 million monthly subvention to Edo University Iyamoh, a funding initiative previously halted by the former administration. The announcement was made during the university’s 6th convocation ceremony held on Thursday in Iyamoh.
Representing the governor, Dr. Washington Osifo, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, conveyed Okpebholo’s commitment to enhancing the institution’s financial support.
“Gov. Monday Okpebholo has restored the N100 million monthly subvention back to Edo University Iyamoh. The N100 million monthly subvention was initially withdrawn by the past administration. And Okpebholo thought it wise to restore the money so that the institution can function well,” Osifo stated. He assured attendees of the state government’s dedication to improving education in Edo.
At the ceremony, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Dawood Egbefo announced that 570 students graduated this year, underscoring the university’s commitment to academic excellence.
“This year, we proudly celebrate the graduation of 570 students across various disciplines, a testament to our institution’s dedication to excellence,” Egbefo noted.
Among the graduates, he highlighted 14 First-Class Honours, 145 Second-Class Honours (Upper Division), 190 Second-Class Honours (Lower Division), and 46 graduates in Medical and Surgery, along with 140 postgraduate students, including 20 PhD recipients.
Egbefo encouraged graduates to embrace their future with confidence. “To our graduates, I urge you to carry forward the values of excellence, integrity, and innovation that Edo University Iyamoh has instilled in you. This is not the end of your journey but the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities,” he said.
The Acting Vice Chancellor emphasized the university’s commitment to providing a world-class education while maintaining a stable academic calendar, which has enabled timely graduations. He expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for its ongoing support but also appealed for assistance in completing several key projects, including the University Teaching Hospital, Senate Building, and Faculty of Law.
A highlight of the ceremony was the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degrees upon former Edo Governor and current Senator Adams Oshiomhole, as well as Vincent Agenmomen, Chairman of the Freedom Group of Nigeria, recognizing their significant contributions to the development of Nigeria.
