Governor Okpebholo Extends Olive Branch to Opposition, Urges Unity for State’s Progress

The Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal has affirmed Senator Monday Okpebholo’s victory in the 2024 gubernatorial election, dismissing all petitions filed by opposition parties challenging the outcome. The verdict, delivered on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, solidifies Okpebholo’s position as Governor and reinforces the integrity of the state’s electoral process.

The tribunal stated that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act, effectively dismissing claims of irregularities and malpractices brought forward by opposing parties. The ruling marks a decisive moment in Edo State’s political landscape, affirming the will of the Edo people.

Reacting to the tribunal’s decision, Governor Okpebholo expressed profound gratitude for the meticulous and impartial handling of the case. He also acknowledged the steadfast support of the Edo State populace.

“This victory is not mine alone, but a victory for every citizen and resident of Edo State,” stated Governor Okpebholo. “It is a mandate to continue the work we have started, to build a state where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We remain committed to our promise of good governance, transparency, and inclusive development.”

In a conciliatory move, Governor Okpebholo extended a hand of fellowship to his principal challenger, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and all residents of Edo State. He implored them to set aside political divisions and collaborate for the betterment of the state.

“Let us unite for the progress of Edo State,” the Governor urged. He emphasized the urgent need for collective effort and a shared vision to secure a brighter future for all.

Governor Okpebholo reassured the people of Edo State that his administration remains unwavering in its dedication to fulfilling its campaign promises. He emphasized that the legal challenges would not deter him from prioritizing good governance, transparency, and inclusive development. The focus, he reiterated, remains firmly on delivering tangible benefits to the citizens of Edo State.
